We have arrived in Europe and spent an entire sleepless day touring the beautiful walled medieval town of Rothenburg.
The kids seemed to like the Kriminal museum, especially the torture instruments. I just like starting the tour with it from a discipline point of view. e.g.:
Poor Ching!
Speaking of discipline, so far this tired bunch of teenagers have been great. We had a unique opportunity to have a guided tour in English of St. Jacob's Church, and the kids were very respectful and quiet in that sacred place while they listened to the heavily accented guide talk about the realick (relic) on the beautifully carved wooden altar.
Rothenburg is as quaint and cute as it always has been:
Typical thing you would see in Rothenburg:
If you've toured with me before, typical thing you will see on a Europe tour (this is a new one, coming down from the tower on city hall (aka the rathaus)
The kids got into the spirit with their first German meal at Gasthof Zur Sonne:
The trip is off to a great start - there is a wonderful group of parents working with Mr. Johnson and myself to insure the kids have a safe and fun adventure over the next two weeks. I keep nodding off at this internet cafe (which is filled with cigarette smoke - the kids could not believe the smoking stations in the airport!). I'm the only one here except for the guy who runs it, and his one cigarette is filling the place! Everyone was really tired after dinner (except a few hardcore travellers who took me up on my offer for more - we did a night time walk on the ramparts around the city - see below). But now even the hardcore are fast asleep, and I better get back to the hotel and get some sleep myself. Another bid day tomorrow - we'll be sleeping in a castle in Bacharach.
We were at the square where the webcam is around the time I said we would be- don't know if anyone was looking or not - but I suggested Megan do a pirouette to get your attention if you were watching - and she did of course.
That's all for now folks!
